Day 18 - Sports Banquet

I finally got to do some things regarding the academic side of athletics. Despite the athletics portion, academics is academics. All athletes must comply to the same set of general education courses, lower division unit requirement, upper division courses, electives, concentration units and upper division writing requirements as the rest of the student body in their respected major. The project I was given was to create a template for every major in the university and its unit requirements. This template is to be used in the future to help guide and determine what courses and how many units a specific student-athlete needs to take in order to fulfill their specified degree requirements. A sample template can be found in the PDF button below. The finalized project can be viewed in the project section of the website.

The evening ended with the athletics-sports banquet. I was able to help with the preparation of the table centerpieces. The banquet ran very smoothly with some fun and humor involved. There is something called the “running man challenge” that is going around with collegiate athletes from around the nation. Stan State was able to get all of their sports to participate in the challenge and created a video to show at the end of the banquet.

The men’s and women’s track team brought home many medals from the conference championship. Several went on to compete at the national level. Two athletes qualified to participate in the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon: Channing Wilson (Javelin and Hammer) and Abraham Alvarado (800 meters).
