I sat in with two different people today. For about two hours, I sat and spoke with Amanda Rosas, the Sports Marketing and Sponsorships person. She currently is the youngest admin individual in the athletic department. She started off as a student assistant to the athletic director while simultaneously offering help to the assistant athletic director of sports information, Hung. It was with Hung where she learned how to use Photoshop. When the position became available, Amanda offered her services and through showing her competence has gained herself a permanent spot. During my hours, she showed me how to use Hootsuite, a social media management dashboard. Since its May 4th, she asked me if she should create a picture and post with “May the 4th be with you”. I said yes. Though she did most of the work, I provided some input into the picture.
The remainder of the day was spent with Hung, the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Information. We generally spoke about where I am with the internship, what I have done, and where I would want to go afterwards following my ultimate goal. He quickly showed me how the use Sidearm, the website template used to create the athletics website. All CCAA conference schools use Sidearm. We discussed the type of work and prep that goes into pre-game and what occurs during the competition. Hung showed me where he gathered information to put together pre-game notes and what goes into writing a post competition story. The discussion then led to learning a bit more about Photoshop and InDesign (software primarily used for making fliers and tickets of sorts).
