This morning began quite early. It was the President’s breakfast. The President’s breakfast is and breakfast that honors students with a 3.0 or above GPA. Students are allowed to invite one professor or faculty of the university to the breakfast. When I was first told about the breakfast, I thought it was a great idea because often times, student athletes are overlooked when it comes to academics. This bridges the gap of student-athletes’ stereotypes and recognizes them for their academic achievements before their professors and the president of the university.
I was in charge of the seat assignments and checking student athletes and faculty members as they walked in. As the breakfast continued, I was in complete awe at some of the accomplishments of these students. It was hard for me to believe that student athletes were able to attain GPAs higher than a 3.7, play a sport, and not have priority registration.
After the breakfast, Ben and I finished up the last of the eligibility workshop. Unfortunately, we were both caught up with the color of the background and the fonts and how to keep it as a default background that we wasted much of our time on figuring out the colors. Fortunately enough, we were able to finish the presentation. I also printed all the necessary pamphlets and a hard copy of for those attending.
There was a decent turnout with the amount of counselors and athletic directors. A few students and parents attended the eligibility workshop as well.
