Today was the first day of Stan States Tournament of Champions. It is the annual softball tournament put on by the school and one of the largest events that occurs in the city of Turlock. In the tournament, there are 26 teams that participate, several which come from the Hawaii Islands. Over the course of 3 days, 77 games are played over 3 facilities in the city. To help run this tournament smoothly 15 sports information directors (SID) volunteered their time to keep score of the games and submit raw data to Hung so final scores could be uploaded to a specific website. All scores for teams were uploaded to live status.
I do not know much about softball or baseball, just the basics so this was a learning experience for me. I was able to sit next to an SID and watch him input statistics during one of the games. As much as I wanted to ask questions regarding what he was inputting so ci could learn, it did not seem to be the proper time. I caught a few innings of the Stan State softball team’s competition. In the second inning Stan State hit 4 home runs! Apparently, I’m good luck since it was my first Stan State game =]
